MILILANI UKA ELEMENTARY LIBRARY
The library will observe the following hours during the school year:
Monday 12:30 p.m. – 2:30 p.m.
Tuesday 11:30 a.m. – 2:30 p.m.
Thursday 8:00 a.m. – 2:30 p.m.
Friday 8:00 a.m. – 2:30 p.m.
The Library will be open for return and borrowing during first recess on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays. Students are required to have a library pass and come with a purpose in mind.
Classes are scheduled to come to the library for a lesson and book borrowing every other week. Below is how many books each grade level is allowed to borrow.
Grade K: 1 book
Grades 1-2: 2 books
Grades 3-5: 3 books and 1 magazine
Books may be borrowed for a 2-week period and may be “renewed.”
Students are expected to follow the Six Pillars of Character whenever they are in the library. This includes being responsible for the library materials that they borrow. Any student that damages or loses a book will be charged the cost for it. Students with outstanding accounts (overdue/lost library materials) will not be allowed to borrow until the account is cleared.
The Hawaii DOE has established a Digital Library where students and teachers are able to borrow e-books that were purchased by the participating schools. Mililani Uka is one of these schools. Although the collection is limited, it will begin to grow as each school submits titles on a quarterly basis. The lending period is 14 days. The website is easy to navigate with pull down menus for categories of books as well as reading levels.
