INTERIM PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE
After weather forecasts stated heavy rains throughout the week, we were truly excited and thankful to have sunshine on 5/3/19. Our students and staff did a fabulous job in presenting Mo`olelo … Tell Your Story to our families, guests and school community. We appreciate our students, teachers and staff for working very hard to make 2019 May Day a huge success that was filled with Uka Pride. Our students were eagerly waiting for our staff to perform “Hawaiian Lullaby” as musicians, singers and dancers.
With the student enrollment at 710, we no longer are able to hold our May Day on the basketball court. The new venue allowed our families to enjoy this celebration on the spacious lawn in Kuahelani Park. A million mahalo to our families for attending our May Day program. Your presence was appreciated by our Mighty Egrets!
Since February we have been waiting to find out what was the Western Association of Schools and Colleges Board decision regarding our school’s accreditation term. Complex Area Superintendent Bob Davis message made us cheer with Uka Pride:
Congratulations! Six years with a mid term report is the highest level accreditation term a school can receive. Please congratulate your staff for the great work.
Here is an excerpt from the letter sent by Stephen Cathers, Commission Chairperson:
The Accrediting Commission for Schools, Western Association of Schools and Colleges (ACS WASC) announces the action taken at the Spring 2019 Commission Meeting. The ACS WASC Commissioners have determined Mililani Uka Elementary School (K – 5) meets the ACS WASC criteria for accreditation.
This accreditation status is based on all of the information provided by the school, including the self-study report, and the satisfactory completion of the on-site accreditation visit. It is the decision of the Commission to grant Six-Year Accreditation Status through June 30, 2025.
The Commission looks forward to Mililani Uka Elementary School’s anticipated success and continuing improvement in keeping with ACS WASC’s pursuit of excellence in elementary, secondary, and adult education.
We received this honor because of our students, teachers, staff, parents and school partnerships who worked collaboratively with Uka Pride. Thank you everyone for your continued support. Interim Vice Principal Mrs. Dana DeRego and I would like to express our sincere appreciation to Mililani Uka ES students, staff and families for making our service as the Interim Administration rewarding. With Uka Pride Mrs. DeRego and I enjoyed creating many happy memories with our school community.
Have a relaxing summer break with your children. We hope our Mighty Egrets will enjoy reading as they spend longer summer days with their family and friends. We look forward in reuniting with our Grades 1 to 5 Mighty Egrets when school resumes on August 5, 2019.
With Uka Pride,
Dale Tanouye Interim Principal
